CEBU, PHILIPPINES — Farmers and fisherfolk in Cebu now have a new way to sell their produce as the Cebu Provincial Government launched an online marketing platform that allows them to reach a wider market beyond traditional physical trading.
Coined “AgriLink,” the web-based platform enables local producers, fisherfolk, and cooperatives to post their available products online and connect directly with potential buyers across the province and nearby areas.
The initiative aims to expand market access for primary producers, improve sales, and provide a more efficient system for buying and selling agricultural and fishery products.
Through the platform, sellers can indicate the type of product, available volume, price, and contact details, allowing buyers to communicate with them directly and negotiate the terms of the transaction.
Provincial Agriculture Office head Dr. Roldan Saragena said AgriLink serves as a digital bridge between producers and consumers.
“Anybody could avail aning Agrilink kay ang purpose niya marketing man…Kami lang ang bridge nga karon naa nay platform,” said Saragena.
Under the system, farmers and fisherfolk are allowed to set their own prices, but these are monitored by the Agriculture Office to ensure that rates remain reasonable.
Aside from sellers posting their products, buyers may also post their specific product requirements, allowing producers to respond if they can supply the needed volume.
Once both parties agree, the transaction will be completed directly between the buyer and seller through their own negotiations.
Saragena said the platform has already recorded successful transactions since its initial rollout.
In one case, one ton of squash from a farmers’ association in San Remigio was purchased by a buyer.
To help facilitate delivery, the provincial government may provide transport assistance using its van when needed.
This service is intended to support bulk purchases and ensure that perishable goods are delivered in good condition.
Saragena emphasized that the province’s role is mainly to serve as a facilitator and marketing link for local producers.
He also assured that measures are in place to prevent fraudulent postings, noting that the authenticity of sellers and product listings undergoes evaluation.
The Agriculture Office reviews applications and validates information before allowing users to actively post products on the platform.
Interested farmers, fisherfolk, and cooperatives may register online by creating an account and submitting the required information for approval.
Once their application is accepted, they can immediately start posting their products, including details on volume, pricing, and other specifications.
Buyers, on the other hand, may browse listings or reserve their orders through the platform for faster and more organized transactions.
