For Domiku Ugarte, the beach was not just a vacation spot—it was home. He grew up along the shores of Bluewater Maribago Beach Resort in Lapu-Lapu City, a resort his grandparents built in 1989. As a child, he saw how much love and hard work his family poured into the business. At the heart of it all was “Amuma,” a Cebuano word that means caring with warmth and sincerity. For Domiku, Amuma remains the soul of their hospitality.
Now part of the next generation of leaders, Domiku continues that legacy while bringing in new ideas. He believes honoring tradition does not mean staying the same. It means keeping the heart of the business alive while improving and growing. Under his leadership, Bluewater opened the new Sidlakan Building in 2024 and began refreshing key areas like Allegro Restaurant and the Main Pool to combine modern comfort with Filipino charm.
Domiku also introduced “Amuma Touchpoints,” a guide to ensure that every guest feels welcome—from the warm “Mabuhay” greeting to a heartfelt farewell. At the same time, he embraces technology to improve the guest experience. The resort now works with Xperium, a mobile concierge that allows guests to check in, request services, and stay connected easily. Their marketing team also uses digital tools to better understand travelers’ needs.
Beyond technology, Domiku focuses on sustainability and community. The resort supports local artisans, promotes eco-friendly practices, and holds monthly coastal cleanups.
Starting from entry-level tasks in the resort, Domiku learned that leadership must be earned. For him, true success means making guests feel at home, valuing employees, and caring for the community—always guided by Amuma.
