Rolando Tambago: Leading Virginia Farms with Vision and Resilience

Rolando Tambago has dedicated 29 years of his career to Virginia Farms, Inc., helping shape the company into one of the region’s leading names in integrated livestock operations. Since becoming president in 2013, he has led the company with a strong focus on resilience, innovation, and people development.

Under his leadership, Virginia Farms has continued to strengthen its operations in farm management, slaughterhouse services, meat cutting, and retail. Through its retail arm, The Pork Shop by Virginia Farms, the company has built a solid market presence with at least 62 stores, mostly in the Visayas, while expanding into Luzon.

Tambago has steered the company through some of the industry’s toughest challenges, including the 2019 outbreak of African Swine Fever in the Philippines. While Virginia Farms successfully remained free of the disease, the crisis brought strict regulations and higher operational costs due to heightened biosecurity measures. Despite these challenges, he remained committed to growth and long-term sustainability.

Looking ahead, he is leading Virginia Farms toward a major expansion in live hog operations, with significant growth planned in Southern Luzon and the National Capital Region.

Beyond business expansion, Tambago is known for his leadership philosophy centered on mentorship. He believes leadership goes beyond managing operations, it is about developing future leaders and building a team capable of overcoming challenges.

For Tambago, success is not defined by profit alone. He strongly advocates for uplifting small farmers and local communities by creating opportunities that improve livelihoods.

"Leadership is not just about achieving targets; it is about developing new leaders."
Mr. Rolando Tambago
President, Virginia Farms Inc.
