For Carl Shawn Barcelo-Lim, Sto. Niño Mactan Montessori School and Sto. Niño Mactan College are more than schools—they are part of his life story. He grew up watching his parents, Charles and Sunshine Lim, build the institutions from the ground up through hard work, faith, and a deep belief in the power of education.
Now serving as a board director, Carl Shawn represents the next generation of leadership. He feels a strong responsibility to protect the values his parents established, while also guiding the schools toward new opportunities. For him, honoring the past does not mean staying the same—it means helping the institution grow.
Seeing his parents lead the schools through difficult times, especially during the pandemic, shaped his view of leadership. He learned that resilience, compassion, and adaptability are essential. More importantly, he saw how his parents made sure teachers, students, and parents felt supported during uncertain times. That sense of care is something he wants to continue.
Carl Shawn believes tradition and innovation can work together. He supports using cloud-based systems, artificial intelligence tools, and digital platforms to improve school operations. However, he stresses that technology should only enhance learning, not replace human connection.
Although still young and continuing his studies abroad, Carl Shawn is preparing himself for bigger responsibilities. He focuses on learning, gaining experience, and seeking guidance from mentors.
Beyond academics, he envisions stronger sustainability efforts, expanded scholarships, and programs that prepare students for Cebu’s growing industries. For Carl Shawn, the goal is simple: to make the schools not just centers of learning, but sources of growth and empowerment for the entire community.
