Small Bag Shop in Minglanilla Becomes Cebuano Pride

From a single bag in 2017 to a thriving business, Aira Bagshop in Minglanilla, Cebu has grown into more than just a store—it’s a livelihood and a home for women, especially single mothers.
Founder Ailyn Flormata started using local materials like rattan, abaca, solihiya, and bamboo to create unique, high-quality bags. Over time, her designs expanded, reaching clients locally and internationally. The journey wasn’t easy. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Aira Bagshop faced financial challenges as a non-essential business. With support from the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. (RAFI), Ailyn kept her passion alive.
Today, her shop employs over 10 women, most of them single mothers. Ailyn’s advocacy is clear: “My number one goal is to give work to single mothers so they can support their children.” Her impact is evident—one staff member even graduated her child from college thanks to the opportunity.
Nearly a decade later, Aira Bagshop produces over 200 handcrafted products, showcasing Cebuano pride and Filipino craftsmanship on a national and international stage. “I’m proud not because of me, but because my bags carry my name,” Ailyn says.
From humble beginnings to a thriving enterprise, Aira Bagshop is a story of resilience, empowerment, and Cebuano pride shared with the world.
